Changing Of The Guard
words and styling By Corey Kelly
Oak Street Magazine, a bi-annual print publication "that explores the intersection between work, culture and community," recently released its much-anticipated fourth edition to select international newsstands. Aptly titled The New Guard Issue, it intelligently highlights creative individuals who are currently changing the status-quo. Sachin Bhola, Oak Street's Editorial Director, curated 144 pages of tightly edited content that includes interviews and photo essays with rapper Joey Bada$$, musical sensation Shamir and Snarkitecture's Alex Mustonen and Daniel Arsham.
The Future of Fashion, my original pitch to the editor to feature and style four personalities who are currently transforming the landscape of the fashion world, luckily made the cut. Written by award-winning journalist Vicki Hogarth and photographed by
Justin Bridges, it spotlights Elliott Sailors, a successful gender-bending cis-female fashion model; Daniel Saynt, a social media CEO and pioneer of the fashion blogosphere; Bradley Rothenberg, a 3-D designer who's changed the game in fashion design and Morgan Bogle, an animal activist-turned-eco-friendly accessories designer. Thanks to hair and makeup provided by Derek Medina, the entire project is evidence of hard work that finally paid off.
